Police have had to be called to a major development site in Brisbane’s West End after a large group of men, some in ski masks and hoodies, appeared in recent weeks and stopped a crane from being trucked to the site.
It is believed Pradella Developments, a major player on the inner-city construction scene, was seeking to use a non-unionised sky crane at its latest unit project on Ferry Rd.
The Pradella project, called The Lanes, attracted more than 60 formal objections last year to the latest stage of the huge project fronting Ferry Rd, which would have more than 300 units spread across three highrises.
Many of the objections expressed concerns about pressure on West End State School and local roads.
The unidentified group has attempted to stop delivery of the crane, which has to be brought in by truck.
