Fighting For Subbies Rights
The ABC's Peter McCutcheon has done an in depth report on the Cullen Group's December 2016 liquidation which was just in time to destroy 600 creditors, their staff and and their families Christmas. The majority of the creditors were subcontractors.
You could only imagine the gut wrenching feeling if you were waiting for payments that were never going to come. Knowing you would not be able to pay your staff and put food on the table for your families.
Creditors lost 45 million in the Cullen liquidation and the aftershocks are still being felt 2 years on, not just with the initial losses and the struggle to get back on your feet but now with over 40 preferential payment claims still in play against subbies.
Subbies were in limbo back on the 22nd December 2016 and still are. We are still dealing with the aftermath and there is no end in sight.
Watch tonights 7.30 Report story on Cullen Group here, we need as much media attention as we can get to force change in the industry. Governments will not do anything until they are embarrassed into it.
