Fighting for Subbies Rights
This is your chance to get the message across on late payments but there is not a lot of time so please do it today.
John Murray was appointed by the Federal Government to undertake a review of the Federal Security Of Payment laws (SOP).
Mr Murray can only make recommendations on the responses he gets so it's vitally important that subcontractors and supplier respond to the survey.
Click on this link and take the time to fill out the form, it will only take a few minutes.
Cleary there is a problem with late payment which often becomes "non payment" and the Government needs to know about it before they can rectify the problem.
Prime example of pathetic late payment excuses taken from a post on SubbiesUnited's forum last week:
"I'm onto payment 3 from a project the first two payments were held up due to every excuse under the sun and today my largest amount owed yet. I'm now advised the accounts manager is overseas and won't be processed until mid next week at best. If subbies want change, they have to make known there is a problem in the first place".
That was posted by someone who I believe, knew nothing about this survey but it encapsulates the problem exactly and the fear that the biggest payment will not come. It's wrong on so many levels.
If subcontractors don’t fill out this confidential (anonymous) form, the reviewers like John Murray will then assume that everything is OK. Conversely, it gives them an excuse to water the SOP recommendations down.
We can't challenge if we don't respond so please respond and take a couple of minutes to fill out the form.
As usual, the forces of evil are batting away in an attempt to water down or get rid of SOP laws as it does not fit their agenda. Prompt payment would not help builders cash flow because currently, they use our money like they own it.
This is the SOP legislation that Subcontractors Alliance have been the driving force behind, they negotiated this amendment to the ABCC legislation with Senator Nick Xenophon so throw your support behind it today.
