Fighting for Subbies Rights
The signs were there on their QBCC licence for this company to fail.
Could the QBCC have a filter that alerts them when a companies revenue drops substantially? It is a valuable sign for subbies when deciding if they want to work for a builder.
- It was a development company building their own houses
- They hired a nominee builder
- The company was only 2 years old
- Their residential construction work was half of what it was the previous year
A major sign to look for on a licence is a sharp downturn in annual residential construction work turnover. It can often point to a company in trouble, especially a new company. In this case, turnover was half that of the previous year.
As usual, there are subbies badly hurt here, one I know for well over $100,000.
The director did a reasonable job of hurriedly hiding as much as possible from public view before anyone could capture it for future reference but they missed some:
- Taking down the facebook page
- Hiding the website
- Deleting their Linkedin profile
Just another disgusting episode in the annals of the Queensland building industry.
