SubbiesUnited Statement – Destruction of Homes Built by Porter Davis

Subbies in Melbourne are being blamed for destroying semi finished houses built by Porter Davis Homes by vandalising them, flooding the inside and arson.

No matter the walk of life, there is always an element of people willing to hurt others but the vast majority of subbies are hard working, decent people.

To date there is no proof it is subcontractors who have done the damage.

Subbies know only too well the feeling of being betrayed and lied to by builders on the way out. The feelings of loss, disgust, outrage and anger all flow over you when a builder liquidates owing in some cases, hundreds of thousands of dollars to individual subbies. The feeling is palpable but there is no excuse for destroying these homes.

It is not hurting Porter Davis or anyone associated with the company as the company is now controlled by the Liquidator Grant Thornton. The previous directors have no power.

Home owners are not our area of interest but the people who are hurt the most by these actions are the owners of these homes who are already feeling lost and don't know where to turn to get their houses finished. They will have extra holding costs while they find a builder to finish what Porter Davis started. In a situation like this you have to empathise with them.

It will also hurt the guilty when they are caught and the families of those people will be in a much worse position than they are now, if indeed it is subcontractors.

You cannot provide for your families if you are in Jail for committing the crime of arson and destroying other peoples property so we at SubbiesUnited are calling for calm and an end to the destruction of innocent peoples homes.

We know what it's like to be innocent victims of crime, time after time when nothing is done about it but thats the life of a subcontractor.

The Qld Government had the opportunity to make good on their election promise to implement Project Trust Accounts to protect subbies money from builders but they have been taken captive by the MBA and have postponed it for a further 2 years.

There is nothing to be gained by the destruction of other peoples property but there is plenty to be lost so we ask that whoever is responsible, think about who you are hurting and stop this destructive behaviour.
